• TYPE IV PFD THROWABLE DEVICE: INTENDED USES: Good for calm, inland water with heavy boat traffic, where there is a good chance of fast rescue. ADVANTAGES: Can be thrown to someone. Good back-up to wearable PFD'S. Some can be used as a seat cushion. Comes in cushions, rings, and horseshoe buoys. DISADVANTAGES: Not for unconscious persons. Not for non swimmers or children. Not for many hours in rough waters.

WARNING!: DO NOT ALTER YOUR PFD!, Don't Put Heavy Objects On Your PFD. Do Not Use Your PFD As a Boat Fender. Don't Leave Your PFD's On Board For Long Periods When The Boat Is Not In Use.

CARING FOR YOUR PFD: Let your PFD drip dry thoroughly before putting it away. Always stow it in a well-ventilated place. Never dry your PFD on a radiator, heater, or any other direct heat source. Do not dry clean.

CHECKING YOUR PDF: Try it on in shallow water, tilt your head back, relax and allow your feet to rise in the water, and feel if the buoyancy is comfortable to keep you afloat. Check for any rips, tears, and holes, and to see that seams, fabric straps, and hardware are okay. Give your PFD belts and tie tapes a quick, hard pull to make sure they are secure. There should be no signs of water logging, mildew odor, or shrinkage of the buoyant materials. FADING CAN INDICATE LOSS OF STRENGTH. A weathered PFD could tear easily, resulting in loss of flotation material. Throw it away and buy a new one.

CHECK YOUR PFD EACH SEASON: The Law States your PFD's Must Be In Good Shape before You Use Your Boat. Ones That Are Not In Good Shape Should Be Cut Up and Thrown Away.
