• ATTENTION! INFANT/CHILDREN'S PFD'S: Immediately upon receiving an infant or children's PFD as children come in many shapes and sizes and each time before going aboard, since they also change weight and size quickly as they grow, PLEASE PERFORM THE FOLLOWING; Pre-test the child in the PFD, if able, in shallow water such as bathtub or swimming pool. Make sure the PFD fits proper weight range, comfortable fit, and especially stable face-up position in the water. REMEMBER; Never leave children unattended in water even if they have a PFD on. WARNING! Children react differently when in water, some struggle, try to climb out of water, or remain calm. Some PFD's work better than others with each individual child. It is best to test each child individually to make sure the PFD will work for them.

• TYPE II PFD NEAR SHORE BUOYANT VEST; INTENDED USES: General Purpose. Good for calm, inland water, or where there is a good chance of fast rescue. ADVANTAGES: Less bulky, more comfortable to wear than a Type I PFD. Keeps most unconscious wearer's face up in water. DISADVANTAGES: Not for Long Hours in Rough Water. Will Not Turn Some Unconscious Wearers Face-Up in Water. May be uncomfortable after wearing for extended periods. Will not turn as many people face-up as Type I PFD will. In rough waters a wearer's face may be covered by waves. Not for extended survival in rough waters.

WARNING!: DO NOT ALTER YOUR PFD!, Don't Put Heavy Objects On Your PFD. Do Not Use Your PFD As a Kneeling Pad or Boat Fender. Don't Leave Your PFD's On Board For Long Periods When The Boat Is Not In Use.

CARING FOR YOUR PFD: Let your PFD drip dry thoroughly before putting it away. Always stow it in a well-ventilated place. Never dry your PFD on a radiator, heater, or any other direct heat source. Do not dry clean.

CHECKING YOUR PDF: Try it on in shallow water, tilt your head back, relax and allow your feet to rise in the water, and feel if the buoyancy is comfortable to keep you afloat. Check for any rips, tears, and holes, and to see that seams, fabric straps, and hardware are okay. Give your PFD belts and tie tapes a quick, hard pull to make sure they are secure. There should be no signs of water logging, mildew odor, or shrinkage of the buoyant materials. FADING CAN INDICATE LOSS OF STRENGTH. A weathered PFD could tear easily, resulting in loss of flotation material. Throw it away and buy a new one.

CHECK YOUR PFD EACH SEASON: The Law States your PFD's Must Be In Good Shape before You Use Your Boat. Ones That Are Not In Good Shape Should Be Cut Up and Thrown Away.
